NEW DELHI: The body of a four-year-old boy, who had gone missing from his house in east Delhi's Geeta Colony on Wednesday, was found dumped in a gunny bag at an abandoned plot on Thursday.

Police suspect the child was sodomized and then drowned.

The incident came to light when the child, out playing, did not return home. His family started looking for him in the neighbouring areas and lodged a missing report at Geeta Colony Police Station.

His body was recovered from an apartment near Pushta Road on Thursday morning. Sources said that CCTV footage of the area show a man dragging a gunny bag and dumping it in the abandoned plot. The bag was left behind a van. When the van left the place, a shopkeeper noticed the bag. On closer inspection, he saw the child's head protruding out of the gunny bag. Locals informed police about the body.

The parents were called to recognize the body after which it was sent for post-mortem. The parents had received no ransom call.

According to police, there were no injury marks on the body. The child's clothes were wet indicating that he could have been drowned to death in a water tub, sources said.

Sources also say that it is possible that the boy was sodomized. The post-mortem reports are awaited.
